This kid!

I just love her!
Out for our walk today. She wanted to walk all by herself. And play with my sunglasses.

Early to bed

Jo has been having a hard time going to sleep at night this week. She's tired, she just won't sleep. She would prefer to run around in circles carrying her doggy and squealing. It's been easier to go to sleep with her around 9pm. Doesn't give me a chance to get much done but I'm certainly feeling more rested than normal.

On the Walls: Part 2

We are finally getting things up on the walls after being in our new place for over a few months now. Jo's room was first...it was the easiest.

I found this little gem at a local shop.
When my mama was here visiting a few weeks ago she added this:
It's a tutu that used to be mine. I need to dig up a few pics of me wearing it. Can't find the photo albums from the move. The tutu is still a bit big for Jo so for now it's on the wall.
We also have these little animal guys from Auntie Liv.
Oh yeah, and she loves this dog. Ruff!

It's a double needle! What does this mean?

I bought a double needle this weekend. It looks like this:
You can get one at any fabric store. It costs about $3. It fits in any sewing machine. If you sew, do yourself a favor and go out and get one. It's pretty amazing.

Here are a few of the reasons why I love it:
  • You can sew parallel lines without the seams getting sloppy.
  • You don't have to do anything fancy with your machine -- just thread just like normal, but with two threads.
  • If you sew with knits, this needle will make your life easier. It makes seams look super pretty and it allows the knit to keep its stretch since the back side of the seam is a little like a zig zag.
So I decided to try it out on some new knits that I bought. Here are the leggings I whipped up for Jo.
See the nice stitching under the waistband?

Gilt Alert - Fjällräven

I think it's pretty obvious by now that I'm a fan of all things Nordic, right? Ok, cool. Glad we got that sorted out.

Imagine my surprise and delight when I saw that Swedish brand Fjällräven backpacks are on sale at Gilt.com right now!

Hurry up as they are going fast. The mini size is perfect for kiddos heading back to school. I want one in every color.

Heja Sverige! Fjällräven means arctic fox in Swedish. It's pronounced: FYELL-raev-en.

By the way, they are also doing it right with their blog. Be sure to check it out.

Just for fun, here is a picture of an artic fox.

 Super adorbs, eh?

Gross? Part 4

Sometimes when I'm changing Jo's poopy diapers I think of my grandparent's hog farm. It's kind of the same smell. Brings back good memories of family, food, and fun. It's kind of cool how smells, even bad ones, can take you somewhere.

Three years!

Nick and I have been married three years! Our anniversary was yesterday although we celebrated early in Minneapolis since we were there over the weekend and had built-in sitters (my family). Woohoo! Three years have flown by and I'm reminded of how lucky I am each day. I flipped through our wedding pics last night and couldn't help but smile. Here are a few of my faves:

Our ceremony was held at Berger Park in Chicago -- right by the lake. It was a gorgeous day and our families were present. We were extremely fortunate to have our friend, Jorge, marry us. Then we trekked over to Reza's in Andersonville to have a small family dinner.

Our kick-butt party was the next day at In Fine Spirits (when they had the restaurant and lounge in addition to their shop next door). Our extended families and friends were able to be there. It was so perfect! I look back and wouldn't change a thing.
